Scott B Smtih-Aerial American Airlines Arena Fire November 1998.jpg
Construction fire top level of new sports arena. Fire officials confirmed earlier speculations that ironworkers cutting steel sparked the fire when molten metal fell on plywood at around 3:15 p.m., November 15, 1998. The fire seemed to have smoldered for more than an hour before it flashed. The full-blown fire started about 5 p.m., probably fueled by gusts of winds and a flammable oil covering the plywood.
