The Everglades Hotel was completed shortly before the infamous Miami hurricane of 1926. In addition to its function as a luxury hotel, the Everglades Hotel was leased by the Navy during the Second World War as housing for officers in training. On Jan. 23, 2005, the Everglades Hotel was imploded in less than 20 seconds to make way for a new, luxury condominium complex--Everglades on the Bay.
