Thousands of pictures have been taken in the old stadium. The classic Orange Bowl is now gone, taken down bit by last bit in the spring of 2008. The legions of fans have bright memories and fading photos.
These photographs are not about games played in the Orange Bowl. It is about the stadium. A tribute. A visual story. A lasting memory for those who attended games there. Here is a look at the structure and its quirky views and angles from all over the simple, basic and barebones design. It is for the scores of fans who may not have realized the last game they attended would become truly their last game in this historic stadium. The author is one lucky native Miamian who happened to be born to a family that absolutely loved football. He was lucky enough to have played his high school football games in the Orange Bowl. Scott B. Smith documents architecture and worldwide destinations as a commercial photographer. He has been shooting professionally since 1986. Early in his photography career, editorial sports was where his camera focused and he covered many football games in the Orange Bowl as a sideline photographer. His keen eye for detail and unusual angles led him away from sports into architecture - urban architecture and its sense of history linking the past.
Smith artfully illuminates a historic gathering place for millions of football fans. To some, the Orange Bowl was Miami’s Fenway Park, its Wrigley Field. Demolition began in March, 2008.
